Hello, Neighbor

Birds' Envy is a specialty food production company rooted in Southeast Lower Michigan: a richly diverse area defined by its deep agricultural history and innovative manufacturing heritage — and, chosen as home by our founders.

We make prepared meals, select baked goods, artisan-style ice cream, and seasonal soups in small batches from named Michigan farms, and we offer them through the channels that fit daily life: grocery cold cases, pre-order pickup, wholesale, and private event catering.

The business was built around the straightforward premise of reliable, honestly made food for everyday life, not just special occasions. Every operational decision follows from that. Production design keeps quality consistent, while freezer-supported inventory keeps product available. Our goal is to provide quality food at reasonable prices, when and where it's needed.

The Founders

Birds' Envy was co-founded by Andrea Fly and Tok Lau in 2025.

Andrea's professional background spans desserts and cake, pastry, butchery, deli, banquets, high-volume catering, brewery and restaurant service, and eleven months in Ubon Ratchathani earning a mindset that still shapes how she approaches both flavor and logistics.

At Birds' Envy, she leads creative design, recipe development, production standardization, ingredient sourcing, and quality control. Every item in the product catalog has been tested and documented to her standard before it enters production.

Tok, who spent some of his formative years in Hong Kong, brings deep experience from multiple facets of engineering, systems design, and prior restaurant ownership to the other half of the operation. He's a patented inventor who is also designing an inventory synchronization system which will connect our production floor to the online ordering platform in real time as we grow.

He's responsible for the equipment, workflow, and process design that enables a small team to produce at a scale that would otherwise require a much larger one. Between the two, they cover the full operational surface of the business: culinary, technical, systems, and innovation.

Why Birds' Envy?

The name comes from a habit most people don't think twice about: feeding bread to birds. It's a good intention backed by poor information. Bread is genuinely harmful to birds because it fills them up and displaces the food they actually need. Birds' Envy is named for the commitment to do better than good intentions, to back care with knowledge, and bring knowledge into action. We let the birds stay jealous and skip the crumbs, for their own good!

For us, that means honest sourcing from named Michigan farms and local Asian markets, no filler ingredients, and product design where nothing goes to waste. The coconut macaroons exist because the baking production generates surplus egg whites. The monthly sipping soups are built around what's in season. Waste isn't managed here, it was designed out. We're building a foundation, which we intend to be part of this community for a long time. We're building it the way we'd want to find it.
